Bourne is back in the 2007 blockbuster “ The Bourne
Ultimatum”. This final installment of the Bourne series
rounds out the trilogy and makes its star Matt Damon bigger
than ever.
In the third installment of an already popular action
series, all the answers are revealed. As the movie opens,
Bourne is once again on the run from police and again shows
how “well-trained” police can be. After his escape, Bourne
begins the journey into government corruption and the roots
of his past. At the head of this corruption is the trigger
happy CIA Deputy Director Noah Vosen (David Strathairn) who
wants Bourne dead before the truth of operation “Blackbriar”
can be revealed. Though it may seem a little dark for Bourne
he also receives some help from the ladies; CIA Head Pamela
Landy (Joan Allen) and agent Nicky Parsons (Julia Stiles)
who both want to save Bourne knowing his amnesiac status.
Damon, Strathairn, Stiles and Allen are all wonderful in
their roles and help to bring Robert Ludlum’s novel an
exciting breath of life.
Thankfully, before we get some answers we get to see some of
the best action that I have seen in recent years. This movie
doesn’t have many bells and whistles and very few
explosions, but that can often make the movie a lot better.
Bourne doesn’t have to rely on high tech gadgets like 007;
he beats his enemies with a book and wins. The movie
soundtrack also helps to create some suspense and will have
you at the edge of your seat. The shaky-camera style of
director Paul Greengrass provides added suspense to the
three chase scenes of the film.
Realistic fight scenes, government conspiracy, and an
ass-handing amnesiac assassin is the perfect formula for an
action movie for the ages. This kind of smart, pulse driving
thriller could become one of the all time greats. I give the
Bourne Ultimatum 5 stilettos.
